Refund
Policy

The short version: we will refund you in almost every case where you feel let down. Long-tail dishonesty is rare and we'd rather eat the occasional loss than be one of those companies that fights its customers.
Subscription ($9/month)
- Within 7 days of any charge: full refund, no questions, you can keep your archive.
- After 7 days: cancel anytime; the current month doesn't refund but you don't get charged again.
- If you forgot to cancel before going on a trip / your mom got sick / you got distracted by life: email us. We'll refund the last month. We trust you.
Standard Volume ($129) / Deluxe Volume ($199) / Extra copies
- Before you approve for printing: 100% refund.
- After approval, before we send the file to the printer (usually a 24-hour window): 100% refund. Just email immediately.
- After it's at the printer, before shipping: 50% refund. The print cost is real and we eat the other 50%.
- After it's shipped, if the book is defective or damaged in transit: free replacement. Send a photo to hello@hearthbooks.love.
- After it's shipped, if you just don't love it: case by case. Tell us what's wrong; usually we can either re-print a fixed version at our cost or offer a partial refund.
Special cases — we always refund
- The Storyteller passes away mid-project and you decide not to finish the Volume: we refund all unfulfilled subscription months, and any unprinted Volume cost. You keep the archive.
- The Storyteller is too ill to continue: same as above.
- You're going through a family situation that makes continuing painful: we pause the project for as long as you need. If you decide to stop entirely, we refund as in the death case.
- Our AI interviewer had a bad call (didn't follow up well, the voice sounded off, the transcript was garbled): we re-do the session free, and we credit you for the month.
- The book arrives badly printed: free replacement.
- The book is lost in shipping: free replacement.
Special cases — we usually don't refund
- You changed your mind about the recipes after the book was shipped: not a refund, but we'll happily print a corrected v2 at a discounted price.
- A family member is unhappy with edits you approved: not a refund — but again, v2 at a discount.
- You bought a Gift Bundle and the recipient never started the project: we'll refund within 90 days of purchase. After that, the gift becomes redeemable forever; we don't pocket unused gifts.
How to request a refund
Email hello@hearthbooks.love with:
- Your account email
- The Project name
- One sentence about what happened
We respond within one business day. Approved refunds go back to your original payment method within 5 business days.
A note on disputes
If you ever file a chargeback before talking to us, we will fight it — not because we're petty, but because chargebacks cost us more than the refund and they hurt our ability to keep prices low. We will always rather refund you directly. Just email first. We're real people.
