Service

Last updated: June 2026.

Plain version: you're buying a service that helps your family preserve recipes and stories, and we'll print a hardcover book. We promise to do good work. You promise to be honest about who you're calling and to not abuse the service. If something goes wrong, we'll make it right.

The service

Hearth captures family recipes and stories via AI-led phone interviews and produces a printed hardcover cookbook ("Volume"). You ("the Keeper") set up a project for a family member ("the Storyteller"). You can invite others ("Co-Keepers") to contribute. We charge a $9/month subscription while your project is active, plus a one-time fee for the printed book.

What you're agreeing to

  1. The Storyteller has consented. When you start a project, you confirm that the Storyteller knows we're going to call them, knows the calls are recorded, and is okay with this. We rely on you. If a Storyteller asks us to stop, we stop immediately.
  2. You'll be honest about who's calling. You will not set up a Hearth project to contact someone who has not agreed to be contacted, or who has asked you not to. This includes ex-partners, estranged family members, and anyone subject to a protective order.
  3. You won't use Hearth to harm anyone. Don't use the service to gather sensitive information for litigation, harassment, or fraud. If we detect this, we'll terminate the account, refund any unfulfilled balance, and may report to authorities if required by law.
  4. You won't try to extract our AI prompts, models, or backend infrastructure. No reverse-engineering, no scraping.
  5. You'll be 18 or older.

What we promise

  1. We'll do our best work on every Project. If a Volume comes back from the printer with errors, we re-print at our cost.
  2. We'll keep your data private. See the Privacy Policy. We never sell it. We never use it to train third-party AI.
  3. We'll be honest when something goes wrong. AI interviewers can have bad days. Print partners can mess up. If something goes sideways on our end, we tell you, and we make it right.
  4. You can cancel anytime. No retention games. No "are you sure?" dark patterns.

Payments and refunds

Intellectual property

Liability — the lawyer-required section

Hearth is provided "as is." We can't guarantee uptime, guarantee the AI will perfectly capture every nuance, or guarantee the printed book will be perfect on the first attempt. If something is wrong, we fix it. Our maximum liability to you is the amount you've paid us in the last 12 months. We're not liable for indirect or consequential damages.

This is enforceable to the extent allowed by law in your jurisdiction. Some jurisdictions (parts of the EU, certain US states) don't allow us to limit certain warranties — in those places, only the parts the law allows apply.

When the relationship ends

You can delete your account anytime, for any reason. We can terminate your account if you violate these terms (we'll tell you why and refund any unfulfilled balance).

After termination: see the Privacy Policy for what happens to your data.

Disputes

If we disagree about something, email us first: hello@hearthbooks.love. We've never had a fight we couldn't talk through.

If we genuinely can't resolve it, disputes are handled by binding arbitration in [STATE TO BE SET WHEN LLC IS FORMED], except: small-claims court is always available, and class actions are not waived where prohibited by law.

Changes

We can change these terms. If we change them meaningfully, we'll email you 30 days before the change takes effect, and you can cancel before then with a prorated refund.
